STOCKS: Nigeria Stock Exchange Closes With Market Capitalization of N35.4 Trillion

At the end of the last weekday of trading on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NGX), a total of 459,770,373 shares in 8,051 deals, corresponding to a market value of NGN 5,345,467,480.33, were traded. Compared with the previous NGX trading day (Thursday, July 27), Fridays data shows 10% decline in volume but 11% improvement in turnover. The current market capitalization of the Nigerian Stock Exchange is NGN 35.4 trillion.

In the aggregate, 114 NGX listed equities participated in trading, ending with 21 gainers and 38 losers. Courteville Business Solutions led the gainers with 10% share price appreciation closing at NGN 0.66 per share, followed by Abbey Mortgage Bank (+8.91%), Omatek Ventures (+8.89%) and Regency Alliance Insurance (+8.11%). On the losing side, Guinness Nigeria came out last with an end-of-day price depreciation of 10% at NGN 66.60 per share, followed by Chams (-10%), John Holt (-9.84%) and Cadbury Nigeria (-9.78%). United Bank for Africa recorded the highest volume of 57.6 million traded shares, followed by Japaul Gold and Ventures (48.1m), Access Holdings (44.2m) and Fidelity Bank (37.6m).

Regarding the performance of NGX market indices, the benchmark NGX All-Share Index (ASI) dropped 426.52 (-0.65%) points to close at 65,056.39, representing a 1-week gain of 0.08%, a 4-week gain of 6.71%, and an overall year-to-date gain of 26.94%. Other remarkable indices that performed were the NGX Top 30 Index (-0.6%; +0.1% 1WK; +28.63% YTD), NGX Top 50 Index (-1.18%; -1.04% 1WK; +42.44% YTD), NGX Oil & Gas Index (+0%; +9.28% 1WK; +100.59% YTD), NGX Industrial Index (-0.19%; -0.31% 1WK; +18.39% YTD), NGX Main Board Index (-0.4%; -0.16% 1WK; +19.95% YTD), and NGX Premium Index (-0.96%; +0.38% 1WK; +45.55% YTD).
