Abu Dhabi Ports Company Meets Stakeholders Over Khalifa Port

Abu Dhabi Ports Company (ADPC) has held a preparatory meeting with stakeholders and the local community in Marfa – part of the plan to progress the first phase of development of Khalifa port.
The meeting was attended by Marfa fishermen, ADPC figureheads, Abu Dhabi’s Urban Planning Council, the Western Region Development Council and consultants, Parsons International Ltd. The fishermen are keen that the project takes into account the improvement in fishing facilities – an important part of the local economy.

 Captain Mohamed Al Shamisi, executive vice president ports unit, ADPC, said to Port Strategy: “Shahama and Marfa Ports are major projects that ADPC is developing and we aim to consult with stakeholders to meet and deliver projects that live up to the community’s expectations.”
 Upon completion of the redevelopment, Khalifa Port will serve as a hub for Abu Dhabi in addition to the traffic generated from importing and exporting goods off the back of Khalifa Industrial Zone (Kizad) activities.
ADPC will launch the first phase of the megaproject at Khalifa Port and the adjacent Kizad (Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi) in September this year. The development will include a full port redesign in order to accommodate more than two hundred boats, fishing and recreational facilities. When completed, Kizad will become one of the world’s largest industrial zones.
 Khalifa Port will be handling the container traffic transferred from Mina Zayed while all other operations will remain in Mina Zayed including general cargo, bulk cargo, RORO, specialised project cargo, and cruise traffic – so it’s crucial that these messages need to be communicated clearly with the community to ensure a seamless transition from Mina Zayed to Khalifa Port.
 On a wider scale, the development fits strategically with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 – which focuses on diversifying income through developing world-class projects.
ADPC’s megaproject is a key enabler of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision for the diversification of the economy. The AED26.5bn (US$ 7.2 bn) Khalifa Port and Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (Kizad) redevelopment is set to redefine the industrial landscape in the region and provide around 100,000 new jobs.
