The Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO) has introduced its newly inaugurated State Executive Committee and operational Trucks Rescue Team to the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration and improve safety within the port corridor.
The delegation, led by AMATO National President, Chief Remi Ogungbemi, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Oluwatoyin Iyabode Agbaminoja, at the Command Headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, on Wednesday.
Speaking during the visit, Ogungbemi appreciated the Command for its continued efforts in maintaining security and orderliness within the port environment and along major logistics corridors.
The AMATO team, which also had the newly elected State Chairman, Alhaji Saro Ahmed, in attendance, stated that the new executive committee is committed to promoting professionalism, discipline, and collaboration among truck operators in the maritime sector.
The association also formally presented its Trucks Rescue Team, established to provide rapid support and emergency response to broken down or distressed trucks operating within and around port access roads.
According to the association, the initiative is aimed at reducing traffic obstruction, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing safety along the port corridors.
In her remarks, CP Agbaminoja commended AMATO for what she described as proactive initiatives geared towards improving port operations and safety.
She stressed the importance of sustained collaboration among stakeholders in ensuring security, safety, and seamless movement within the nation’s ports and adjoining transport corridors.
The police commissioner also charged the newly inaugurated executives and members of the Trucks Rescue Team to operate within the confines of the law and maintain close synergy with security agencies while carrying out their duties.
She reiterated the Command’s commitment to supporting lawful initiatives that contribute positively to port operations, public safety, and the growth of the maritime sector.
The visit ended with discussions on strengthening partnership between the police and maritime transport stakeholders towards ensuring a safer and more efficient port environment
