The Managing Director, Eyis Resources Limited, Mr. Lucky Amiwero has charged the Nigeria Institute of Shipping [NIS] and the Institute of Transport Administration [IOTA] to employ the services of experts to run the affairs of the professional institutes.
In a chat with Shipping Position Daily, the frontline licensed customs agent said that as professional institutes in the transport and maritime sector of the country, there is the need to bring in professionals to engage students in capacity building.
He said that both institutes should involve industry players in its training programmes, adding that it will bring about transformation.
The former president of IOTA explained that engaging experts will bring about competence on the part of the students after they might have been done with the professional programme in the institute.
Mr Amiwero who is also a factional president of National Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents, stressed that, for an institute to run professional courses there is the need to bring in hands that are into day- to- day operation of what goes on at the ports, pointing out that it has nothing to do with the appointment of academicians.
According to the fellow of NIS, practical orientation is aimed at achieving better results and therefore operators in the industry have a pivotal role to play in these institutes.
He explained that experts in the industry can impact on the students positively, compared to what professors and academicians from Universities can offer, adding that the industry is highly technical.
Amiwero urged both institutes to consider experts from the sector to be part of their training team.
