The Amuwo- Odofin Local Council of Lagos State has promised that it would provide live jackets to pupils living in riverine communities in the area.
The council’s Supervisor for Education, Mrs Chizoma Iwuoha, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the live jackets would be provided to each of the pupils to ensure their safety to and from school.
According to Iwuoha, the council also plans to construct three new primary schools in the area.

According to Iwuoha, the council also plans to construct three new primary schools in the area.
“We will also provide 7,000 pieces of customised schoolbags, 42,000 exercise books and 14,000 sets of school uniform for the pupils,“ she said.
Iwuoha said that the council had renovated 40 classroom blocks in the last one year as part of efforts to enhance access to education.
“National Certificate of Education holders, cleaners and gardeners would also be employed for each of the riverine schools,” she added.
She said that the council had obtained the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms for 500 indigent candidates seeking admission to tertiary institutions.
The councillor also said that the candidates had undergone six weeks tutorial funded by the local government to prepare them well for the JAMB examination.
According to her, the tutorial was conducted by members of the Nigeria Union of Teachers in the area.
