ANLCA Seeks Police Help Over Presence Of Miscreants At Ports

The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has sought the help of the Police to help rid the nation’s seaports of miscreants who throng the ports daily.
The association made the plea on Tuesday when its National President; Prince Olayiwola Shittu led a delegation on a visit to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command; AIG Irimiya Yerima at the Kam Salem House Headquarters, Moloney St, Obalende, Lagos.
The ANLCA president lamented that the presence of unwanted persons in the ports gives members of his association a bad image and name.
He stated that ANLCA is concerned because most of these unlicensed individuals which constitute a restless crowd inside the ports, collect jobs from unsuspecting consignees, and disappear with money paid to them, without a trace.
The Police boss was also presented with a petition about questionable letters being written by the Police to shipping companies to stop the release and delivery of cargoes, despite Customs releases.
Prince Shittu also informed the AIG, the Commissioner of Police and some officers present at the interactive that ANLCA is an organized body of licensed customs agents whose members are listed on its website.
They were also informed that ANLCA being a member of the World Customs Brokers Organization is bound to live up to international standards and best practices.
It was noted that collaboration between the police and the association is required for trade facilitation, cost-effective cargo clearance and checkmating the incessant extortion and intimidation of customs agents by the Nigeria Police, who are expected to share intelligence with the Nigeria Customs.
Responding, AIG Yerima sought the support of ANLCA to make his job easy, by supplying quality information to the police so as to act proactively.
