ANLCA Sensitize Members, Cautions Against Thuggery During Election

Some members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and Western Zone executives of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) have embarked on a sensitization campaign at the eight chapters where elections are billed to hold soon, even as the association has also cautioned its members against acts of violence and thuggery in the coming elections of the association.

The BoT members and zonal executives who were at the Tin Can Island Port on Teusday also took time to explain the recent decision of the association's National President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu  to resign his appointment from the governing council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN). According to the team, the action is being misconstrued.
Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the BoT, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi pleaded with the Tin Can Chapter members to shun any act of violence and charged them to cooperate and support the decisions embarked upon by the national president.
On the need for smooth campaign, Oyeniyi said, "I want to inform you all that our ears are on the ground, if there is any aspirant that has resolved to get into position through any means like the use of harmful objects like guns, cutlasses and so on, that person will have himself to blame, ANLCA has shifted from the former bus stop to the proper bus stop".
"Election is not a do or die affair, God almighty knows who the next chairman is going to be, the president has warned against any act of violence" he stressed.
Also speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Tin Can chapter of ANLCA, Mr Kayode Farinto explained that change is inevitable and that any member who wished to contest for any position should begin the campaign immediately.
"Association’s electoral commission has lifted the ban of election campaigns, if you are interested in vying for my seat which is chapter chairman, you can start campaigning from today, if you are also interested in other positions, feel free to go ahead", he advised.
Farinto also cautioned that, "leadership is all about followership, if you have your followers, then  you should go about your campaign in an ideal and honourable way, don't go with thugs or any arms to intimidate your opponent, the only thing permanent in life is change".
The BoT members present at the meeting was led by the secretary, Chief Taye Oyeniyi, Chief Sunday Odedeyi, the publicity secretary of ANLCA, Mr Obicee Okonkwo and Mr David Kanikwu.
The team had earlier visited the PTML chapter and the MMIA chapters in the course of the sensitization.
