Denmark’s APM Terminals Cargo Service has announced that it has formed a new partnership with DONG Energy, to reduce the operator’s energy consumption and CO2 emissions at the port of Aarhus.
The strategically important partnership will focus on a 10% energy reduction by way of improved lighting and electricity usage.
Also, the terminal operator will purchase green energy produced by offshore windfarms to drive operations at its cargo terminal.

Managing director, Johan Pedersson Uggla, of APM Terminals Cargo Service, said: “APM Terminals Aarhus has an ambition to improve our environmental performance. This partnership reflects our sustainability plan to reduce energy consumption and drive CO2 reductions.”
The green focus doesn’t stop there though – equipment is also being looked at to improve efficiency, including straddle carriers and reach stackers at the terminal.
APM Terminals recently released its sustainability report for 2011 which outlines a global target for a 25% reduction of CO2 emissions per teu by 2020.
The port operator has already achieved CO2 emission reductions per teu of 16.5% from 2009-2011.
