Apprehension in NPA As Union Serves Notice Of Strike

Employees of Nigerian Ports Authourity (NPA) have given management notice of industrial action over grievances which range from delayed promotions.
 
Already, the two house unions, namely: the Senior Staff Association and  the NPA branch of Maritime works Union of Nigeria(MWUN)have served the management a notice of industrial action.
 
By last Thursday, the two unions directed that workers should stay away from work with effect from 12 midnight of Sunday August 17, 2014.

By last Thursday, the two unions directed that workers should stay away from work with effect from 12 midnight of Sunday August 17, 2014.
 
The strike notice which was issued by the two associations was pasted at strategic points at the Marina, Lagos head office of the agency late last week, while the unions’ executives went round offices to mobilise the employees to stay away from work from Sunday.
 
The strike notice was however unsigned by the leadership of the two house unions. A copy of the notice which was obtained by our correspondents reads: “The Maritime Workers Union and the SSACTAC have agreed to proceed on industrial due to the failure of the management to implement the agreement earlier reached with the two house unions. The strike action will commence on Sunday midnight 17th  August ,2014.
 
However, our correspondent could not ascertain if the workers would heed their leaders directive , duet to what sources close to both management and the workers described as the failure of to sign the strike notice.
 
A staff at the Marina head office, who pleaded anonymity, told our correspondent that the workers are not sure, because the directive was not signed.
 
According to him, “ it is certain that workers will come to work today (Monday), but when we get to the office, we will know what next to do”.
