No one will be satisfied. I don’t think the problem of the road is the construction, even though it is slow, the real problem is as a result of the concentration, the clustering of tank farms and the trailers that are hanging on the roads. The contractors are experts, we cannot force them to finish the road immediately, for some time now the road has been giving us a lot of problems, it’s not the first time they are constructing it, so the place needs some concentration so that when you finish constructing you don’t have to come back again, if you notice, we have been constructing and coming back to it, we don’t have to rush them, the only thing we will ask of them is to give us an access to pass through which I think Julius Berger is doing now. Like I said, the major problem is not the construction work, but the tank farms and the trailers that are blocking access to the port.

I am not satisfied with the pace of the work; the construction has lingered on for some time now, when they started the roads two years ago, we had it in mind that before now there would have been a better development at the place, but we are really disappointed. If not that Julius Berger had come into action, the delay would have continued, so it is something that calls for serious questioning, I don’t know if government has given them mandate on when to deliver the road, because I learnt initially that the contractors complained that their money was delayed, and I believe that by now they must have been given whatever they are asking for just to make sure that they speed up the work. The port is the gateway to the nation’s economy and its an abnormality to witness this kind of delay going on, we no longer move freely to the port, you spend about three hours to get to the port, this ought not to be so.

I will only score them 35 percent for the pace at which the work is going, the place needs urgency because the containers cleared from the port will use these roads, they are not working day and night, when there is urgency you need to employ more hands for the work to be done day and night. If you go to that place on weekends, you will see that no work is being done there, but on other days when people are using the road that is when you see them scrapping up and down, yet nothing is happening there, yet it’s a Federal Government road. I will advise that the Minister of Works should please relocate to Lagos in order to be able to supervise that project by himself, it’s not for him to send resident engineers to do the job, it is his responsibility to make sure that those things are done, vehicles passing the road are the ones carrying petroleum products and containers which are very essential to the economy.

We face challenges of traffic in this area, this is the place we have been doing business for a very long time, this is where we know, sometimes we might want to bring our customers here but because of the construction work that is going on here they will always tell you that the traffic is too much and they will ask you to take them to another place, traffic is one of our major challenges, but we just pray that government will help us to fast-track the job on the road. It’s a good job, looking at the construction work the way they are doing it, I don’t think there will be any witchcraft that can spoil that road again once it’s completed.

The road rehabilitation along the Apapa Oshodi expressway is a very welcome development to the Apapa community and the sea ports as well, but the fact still remains that the way they are fixing the road is not encouraging because for government to split the contract to two construction companies is a failure on their part. We know that the traffic situation on the road is terrible most especially the Sunrise to Coconut axis, thus the construction companies are confused, so they need be focus with a particular lane and not jumping from one side to the
but by and , I am not satisfied with the level of work on that road at the moment, but I believe that very soon we shall all smile over everything.

The road rehabilitation along the Apapa Oshodi expressway is a welcome development but the truth is that the construction companies ought to carry out operations between the hours of 11pm and 5am so that they won't disturb the flow of traffic during the busy period. They should allow vehicles to move from a certain period of time to enable those driving inward and outward of Apapa to do so and also engage a team of traffic marshals to control the flow of traffic on the road.

Even though the pace of work on that road is a bit slow, it is still for the betterment of the Nigerian public and of course the port users. On the part of the public, I think it is normal for us to complain when the right thing is not placed in the proper perspective but what I think should be done before the completion is that they should put in place traffic management along the road because the major problem is not just the road rehabilitation, but how the traffic is being coordinated. So what we are saying is that it is a welcome development and whenever there is repair works on roads there is bound to be traffic gridlock.

I am not satisfied with the rehabilitation work on that road because there are lots of controversies that surround it. Normally when you want to set up such federal government project there should be an arrangement between the contractors and the commuters on movement of vehicles on that spot, but it is not. As we speak the situation of the road has discouraged a lot people to do business in Apapa and the port in general. Traffic management is very important when a construction firm is handling such project but it is not like that in this regard. Again they are supposed to coordinate themselves and not move from one side of the road to the other creating confusion for the road users. In summary, I am not really happy about the whole thing.
