……As Navy Apprehends Vessel With 200,000 Metric Tonnes Of Crude In Delta

The Nigeria Navy Ship (NNS) Warri Naval Base also on Tuesday said it had apprehended MV Jochebed vessel and nine suspects on board allegedly carrying 200,000 metric tonnes of crude oil.
The Commander, NNS Delta, Capt. Musa Gemu made the disclosure to newsmen at the Naval School of Engineering in Sapele.
Gemu said that the self-propelled ship was apprehended by personnel of the Navy on Oct. 12 at about 3 a.m. around Usan, northern part of the Chevron operational area in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta.

Gemu said that the self-propelled ship was apprehended by personnel of the Navy on Oct. 12 at about 3 a.m. around Usan, northern part of the Chevron operational area in Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta.
He said that the suspects were in the custody of the Navy and that they were been interrogated.
“Jochebed is one of the series of arrest we have made in recent time in ensuring that we stop illegal oil bunkering in my area of responsibility.
“We will continue to do that in line with the Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) zero tolerance on illegal oil bunkering.
“The nine crew members are all in the cell, they are like cartel, they will never tell you their sponsors,’’ he said.
The commander said that the Navy would not relent on its oars until criminal activities in the waterways were completely eradicated.
He, however, appealed to the CNS, Rear Adm. Usman Jubrin, to prevail on the presidency to evacuate the vessels which cases had already been disposed by court from the Naval berthing facilities.
“Those vessels whose cases have been disposed supposed to be out of this place, they are over-stretching the berthing facilities that I have on ground and it cost a lot to money to maintain them.
“Judgment has been passed on some of the ship and about four of the vessel have been forfeited to the Federal Government,'' he said.
