The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria MWUN has called-off its three days warning strike after resolving major burning issues as regard workers’ remuneration with APM Terminals Apapa.
The President General, MWUN Comrade Adewale Adeyanju confirmed the development to our correspondent today(Friday).
Adeyanju disclosed that the union and the terminal operator reached an agreement in resolving some of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
He confirmed that workers are to resume operational activities at the terminal this evening.
He also commended management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council for the prompt intervention to safe the nation’s economy from collapse.
He never-the-less reiterated the Union’s commitment towards ensuring industrial peace and harmony in the shipping industry.
The MWUN President General has earlier on Friday on our sister platform, Shipping Position Live, hinted of the possibility of the strike being called-off.
Speaking via the telephone, Adeyanju hinged the possible call-off, on the outcome of the union’s meeting with the management of APM Terminal. . He spoke shortly before entering for the meeting.
