At the training which held at the ANLCA office at Tin Can last Wednesday, the public relations officer of the chapter, Onome Joy Monije stated the importance of capacity building to the customs brokers.

She explained that, customs brokerage has left the manual dispensation and as such there is need for customs brokers to be aware of the changes in the profession

Explaining further on the importance of digitalisation, she said it is the transition processes of operation currently experienced in the global world, whereby operations of freight forwarding, logistics and supply chain industry have drastically reduced the mean seamless operation and generating revenue for the government.

She added that digitalisation has also made operations very easy and as such, the need for all customs agents to upgrade themselves with the necessary skills that will enhance their jobs.

She explained that some clearing agents out of ignorance now forge signature of customs area comptroller and alter value.

“It is no longer news that some of our members; out of ignorance now forge the signature of Area Controller and alter value”

“That is why some of our agencies are blocked from Abuja without the knowledge of the management of the agencies, that is why it is highly essential that we educate our members on the need of upgrading to the required standard that is attainable in the global world.

She also urged the clearing agents to synergise with like minds who can learn things they don’t know that will enhance their business together.

The highpoint of the training was demonstration on how duty payment, VAT, Cost Insurance and Freight (CIF) etc are calculated.
