The Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri, has conducted a Community Children Educational Outreach Programme in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebration.
The outreach, which took place on Monday, 25 May 2026 at Enitonna High School, was aimed at promoting education, healthcare awareness, mentorship, and youth empowerment among students within the host community.
The programme featured the distribution of educational materials and writing aids to students, alongside health sensitization lectures, career guidance sessions, and mentorship engagements designed to encourage academic excellence, discipline, and responsible citizenship.
Speaking during the event, the Commandant of Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri, Navy Captain Edna Omezurike, expressed appreciation to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas, for what she described as visionary leadership and sustained support for community-oriented initiatives under the Navy’s 70th anniversary activities.
She noted that the outreach reflects the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to strengthening civil-military relations and contributing meaningfully to national development through education and humanitarian interventions.
Navy Captain Omezurike also commended the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command for his guidance and strategic support, which she said contributed significantly to the successful coordination and execution of the programme.
She reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to sustaining initiatives that promote quality education, mentorship, and character development among young Nigerians, stressing that education remains central to national growth, peace, and socio-economic advancement.
Also speaking, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri, Navy Captain Elendu, emphasized the importance of preventive healthcare, personal hygiene, and early health education among school children.
He noted that such interventions are essential in building a healthy, productive, and enlightened society, adding that healthcare awareness at a young age helps shape responsible lifestyle choices.
Both senior officers reiterated that the Nigerian Navy remains committed not only to its constitutional mandate of maritime security but also to broader national development through strategic investments in education, healthcare, and youth-focused programmes.
They observed that such initiatives strengthen community relations, promote social responsibility, and contribute to human capital development and national cohesion.
The outreach further reinforced the cordial relationship between the Nigerian Navy and its host communities, while underscoring the importance of sustained engagement with young people as critical stakeholders in national development.
The Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri and the Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri reaffirmed their resolve to continue collaborative programmes aimed at advancing education, healthcare delivery, youth empowerment, and community development in line with the Nigerian Navy’s strategic vision.
