A cross section of agents who spoke to our correspondent in Lagos last week disclosed that the process of clearing vehicles out the ports used to be hectic due to the congestion at the terminals where vehicles are located.

A cross section of agents who spoke to our correspondent in Lagos last week disclosed that the process of clearing vehicles out the ports used to be hectic due to the congestion at the terminals where vehicles are located.
A large number of them who spoke to Shipping Position Daily said that in time past, congestion at the RoRo terminal was a major reason vehicles cannot leave the terminal on time after clearing procedures had been completed.
Apart from that, they said the concessionaires have been able to strategize on easy ways of tracking vehicles at the terminal.
Chief Abel Ochala explained that the terminals of Five Star Logistics and the Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited; both at the Tin Can Island port have been able to address some the problems that agents encounter when it comes to clearing of vehicles out of the port.
He said since the concessionaires took over the terminals in 2006, clearing of vehicles at the port has improved even as he added that vehicles imported into the country are no longer vandalised as it was the case in the past.
Sighting instances, he said that, ‘’at Five Star Logistics terminal, we have where importers or agents can easily go and trace their cars while there is also a park while trucks are located and also for buses, that alone will explain better why it has improved’’.
On his part, Chairman of Tin Can port chapter of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents [ANLCA]; Mr Kayode Farinto, in a chat with our correspondent said that congestion at the car park ‘C’ of Five Star terminal is a thing of the past even as he added that it was a huge problem in time past.
‘’The congestion we normally witness at car park ‘C’ is no longer there, the level of compliance of licensed customs agents has increased tremendously’’, he pointed out, even as he added that this has also positively affected revenue.
