‘’If there is no ports there will be no dockworkers but as far as there are ports all over the country, dockworkers will forever exist and this anniversary calls for togetherness and understanding among us’’.
This assertion was made known over the weekend by the President of Maritime Workers Union Nigeria, Dockworkers Branch Comrade Adewale Adeyanju at the 2nd anniversary of the present executive of the union in Lagos.
The dockworkers branch president who was represented by the District Pool Chairman, Maritime Workers Union Nigeria, Dockworkers branch, Comrade Akeem Abayomi  Lawal said that the second anniversary is a way to bring together members of the union so as to continue to  achieve a common goal.
‘’Our fathers who have been dockworkers before did not introduce this type of gathering but today we are experiencing it for the second time and I want to believe that if this type of a gathering had been in existence before now, the dockworkers would have been more united than the way they are at the moment’’ ,Lawal noted.
He said that the anniversary will continue to hold annually for members of the union to interact on the way forward toward the growth of the maritime industry and the lives of its members.
He thanked the President General of Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Nted Anthony Emmanuel for contributing immensely to the lives of the maritime workers, adding that he has transformed the lives of everybody.
According to him, what the president general has done to the maritime workers cannot be compared to other personalities in public and private sector.
On his part, National Trustee of MWUN Dockworkers Branch, Comrade Keshinro Wasiu in his speech said that dockworkers in the past were described as thugs, but with the transformation being embarked upon by the President General of the union and the President of the Dockworkers Branch, there is a clear indication that there has been a great change in the lives of maritime worker.
He added that ‘’the 2nd anniversary is indeed a platform to celebrate the Nigerian dockworkers and it is a way to  share ideas that will be benefit members.”
