There is palpable tension and anxiety at the Customs Area 1 Command in Port Harcout Port in Rivers state, following the alleged refusal of the Area Controller; Mr Dan Kuffi to comply with a recent directive transferring him out of the command.
The transfer was ordered by Dr. John Atte when he held forth briefly for one week as Acting Comptroller General of the Customs Service.
But sources at the Port Harcourt Port confirmed to Shipping Position Daily that, rather than comply with this directive, Dan Kuffi had allegedly travelled to Abuja where he spent more than two weeks, in a desperate move to retain his position.
Investigations by our correspondent in Port Harcourt revealed that Kuffi's replacement (Comptroller Azarema arrived in Port Harcourt waiting for the hand – over, to no avail.
After two weeks of waiting on the wings, we gathered that t Azarema had to return to Abuja.
Concerned stakeholders at the port told our correspondent that the situation had since created a lull in business activities of the command, even as they accused Mr Kuffi of alleged high handedness, secrecy, and blaming him over poor container/cargo movements at Rivers Port, causing low revenue generation for the economy.
Efforts made to speak to Mr Kuffi on the allegations against him proved abortive as at press time
