Council of Managing Directors Lauds Lagos Government on New Traffic Law

Even as the Association of Maritime Truck owners (AMATO) and other haulage associations have condemned the Lagos State Government over its new law which restricts the movement of container- laden  vehicles and other trucks in the state, the National Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents has commended the State Governor; Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) for enacting the law.

Even as the Association of Maritime Truck owners (AMATO) and other haulage associations have condemned the Lagos State Government over its new law which restricts the movement of container- laden  vehicles and other trucks in the state, the National Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents has commended the State Governor; Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) for enacting the law.
Factional national president of the freight forwarding association, Chief Festus Ejiofor, said that the state government’s action is beneficial, even as he expressed support for the move.
The president told Shipping Position Daily in Lagos last week that night movement of the trucks will reduce the chaos on the port access road.
In his words, “the trucks and trailers have been causing havoc on our roads and if the state government decides to put in place measures that will address the issue, it is a welcome development’’.
‘’If all trucks and trailers would leave the roads for cars and other commuters during the day while they move at night,  this will ease traffic and also aid the smooth flow of cargoes in and out of the  ports’’, he stated.
Ejiofor urged other Governors in the country to emulate what the Governor of Lagos State has been doing in transforming the state, even as he added that with the high population in the state, the governor has been able to put infrastructures in place.
According to him, the international community has described the state as the fastest developing city in the world and how he has been able to transform major parts of the state.
‘’We have been experiencing traffic gridlock at the port access roads before the bill was passed into law and I believe that the law will definitely address congestions and traffic problems in the ports  and the state roads’ he maintained.
However, Ejiofor called on stakeholders in the maritime industry to cooperate with the state Governor on the new traffic law as it will ease the movement of cargoes out of the ports.
