COVID-19: Get Vaccinated Before FG’s December Deadline, NYSC DG Tells Corps Members

The Director-General of National Youth Service Corps, Brig-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim has urged batch C stream I corps members to get vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of the December deadline of the Federal Government.

NYSC

Ibrahim disclosed this last week during the terminal parade ceremony of 1,198 corps members in Amada orientation camp located in Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.

Recall that the FG through Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 and Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha in October stated that the 1st of December would be the deadline for civil servants to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

After the deadline, civil servants would be required to show evidence of COVID-19 vaccination or present COVID-19 PCR test result done within 72 hours to gain access to their offices.

Represented by the State Coordinator Ada Imoni, Ibrahim urged the corps members not to disregard all the protocols they have imbibed while on camp, noting that they should enlighten others who are less informed about the pandemic.

“Let me use this opportunity to remind you that the COVID-19 prevention protocols are not meant to be observed in the Orientation Camp alone.

“With your level of awareness of the virus, I am confident that you would continue to be on your guard everywhere you find yourselves while also helping to sensitise members of the host communities,” he said.

While stressing the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine, the DG noted that since their places of primary assignment would be majorly government offices, it would be inevitable for them to evade the sanctions from erring workers.

Ibrahim added, “May I also remind you of the Federal Government’s plan to make the presentation of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination a condition for gaining entry to government offices from 1st December 2021. You are, therefore, expected to make yourselves available for the vaccination as the rule will apply to you in your places of Primary Assignment.

“I will not end this address without thanking the Federal Government for its unwavering support for the Scheme.

“Our appreciation also goes to State Governments, Local Government Councils, Security Agencies, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, the TY Danjuma Foundation, traditional rulers, Corps Employers and other stakeholders whose support has contributed to our successes over the years.”
