There are indications that the much-delayed elections into the governing council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) may hold in December.
Feelers from the supervisory ministry of transportation indicate that the need to urgently hold elections into the council of CRFFN was contained in the briefs that the new Minister; Mr Rotimi Amaechi was given by directors in the ministry.
Shipping Position Daily gathered that the Ministerial briefing, which is currently going on in Abuja and which was extended to the chief executive officers of various agencies under the ministry, commenced yesterday and will continue today.
Corroborating unfolding events at the Ministry as it concerns the CRFFN, President, National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF); Chief Eugene Nweke confirmed at the inauguration of a 41-member national executive council for NAGAFF on Tuesday that the CRFFN elections will hold in December.
While stating that the election will hold in December 2015, the NAGAFF President also urged members of the association who are yet to update their membership of CRFFN to do so or face de – registration by NAGAFF leadership.
Nweke pointed out that the old order of freight forwarding business is changing, adding that the government is highly interested in the maritime sector.
The NAGAFF boss stated that" government is seriously talking about merger and the merger has come and in the next one month ahead announcement will be made to the public about the elections of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) governing council".
According to him, CRFFN is the only guarantee that members of NAGAFF are professional freight forwarders.
Nweke added that "if we fail to produce the right documentation then we will miss out as regards professionalism in freight forwarding practice and council itself”.
He warned his members that, “if you fail to register with CRFFN , I will be the first person in conjunction with the founder to de-register anyone who failed to do that".
