The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has moved for the secondment of Mr. Alban Igwe as the new acting executive secretary of Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers (NIFFCB).
This was contained in a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily in Lagos, last week.
The letter dated 3rd November 2015 was signed by the Registrar of the Council; Sir Mike Jukwe and addressed to the national president of the institute; Dr. Zebulon ikokide.
Jukwe said that Mr. Alban Igwe’s appointment is for an initial period of nine months as acting executive secretary of NIFFCB, adding that it is in line with the on-going re- organisation to re – position then institute.
He noted that CRFFN is not a training institution and cannot be seen embarking on education programmes for practitioners adding that the NIFFCB is the professional body that can offer training.
Jukwe added that NIFFCB will from 2016 in addition to the Mandatory Continuous Professional Development (MCPD) programmes, provide training at all CRFFN training centre offices in Abuja, Lagos, Kano and Port Harcourt.
Some of the programmes listed for 2016 programme include: certificate in freight forwarding, FIATA diploma in freight forwarding and FIATA higher diploma in supply chain management.
Others, according to him are executive diploma in freight forwarding and the freight forwarders' annual conference.
He however urged the president of NIFFCB to assist the new acting executive secretary, pointing out that preparations need to commence as part of efforts to restructure CRFFN and NIFFCB as revenue earners.
"We have to start the preparation now as we are set to re-position NIFFCB as a revenue earner "
"Please, give him the necessary assistance that he may need to discharge his duty towards achieving the desired result of this change”, the letter added.
Meanwhile, speaking with our correspondent also, President of NIFFCB, Dr. Zebulon Ikokide said that the appointment of the new executive secretary for the institution is laudable, even as he described the new man as a core teacher.
Ikokide added the acting executive secretary is sent to a terrain where he will perform better, saying that Alban Igwe is a household name.
"He is a familiar face, he is in a terrain where he is familiar with and he is also a good teacher".
He also said that NIFFCB is not in a position to employ an executive secretary due to financial constraints, adding that the institute requested for a secondment as a way to assist the institute.
