The Nigeria Customs Service Board (NCSB) has approved major appointments into its management cadre alongside special promotions for selected officers following its 64th Regular Meeting held on Tuesday, 25 November 2025. The meeting, chaired by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, focused on strengthening leadership succession, boosting morale across the Service, and reinforcing operational efficiency in line with emerging national revenue and security demands.

Acting under the provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023, and guided by the Federal Character Policy as stipulated in Section 14(4), the Board confirmed the appointment of five Deputy Comptroller-Generals of Customs. Those elevated include Baba Imam from the North-East, Isah Umar and Tijjani Abe from the North-West, Timi Bomodi from the South-South, and Oluyomi Adebakin from the South-West. Their appointment is expected to fill leadership gaps created by recent retirements and strengthen high-level oversight across Customs formations nationwide.

The Board also approved the elevation of eight senior officers to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General. They are C.G. Ogbonna from the South-East, I. Abba-Aji from the North-East, G.M. Haruna and E.J. Edelduok from the South-South, G. Gaura and I. Isyaku from the North-West, M.S. Shuaibu from the North-Central and M.D. Malah from the North-East. The NCSB explained that the new ACGs would support enhanced policy execution, compliance monitoring and improved administrative coordination across zones.

A significant outcome of the meeting was the approval of special promotions for ten officers who demonstrated outstanding professionalism, leadership capacity and measurable contributions to improved operations in their respective commands. Those promoted include A.C. Fanyam and G.M. Shidali, both elevated to the rank of Comptroller of Customs; S. Omofoma, O.A. Oladepo, A.Y. Musa and A. Ogboru, who were all promoted to Deputy Comptroller of Customs; and A.A. Maiwada, National Public Relations Officer of the Service, who was also elevated to Deputy Comptroller of Customs in recognition of his contributions to national revenue protection, strategic communication and public engagement. Others are C.N. Essien and H. Aliyu, promoted to Assistant Comptroller of Customs, and A.S. Shofadekan, elevated to Deputy Superintendent of Customs.

The Board noted that the special promotion category remains a distinguished honour reserved for officers whose exceptional performance has significantly impacted national revenue mobilisation, anti-smuggling operations, trade facilitation, and overall service delivery.

According to the NCSB, these new appointments and promotions align with ongoing reforms aimed at deepening administrative capacity, motivating personnel and ensuring that the Nigeria Customs Service remains responsive to the dynamic challenges of trade facilitation, border security and economic stability.
