The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit (FOU), Zone C, Owerri, yesterday destroyed smuggled frozen chicken and vegetable oil worth N22 million.
The Area Comptroller of the unit, Mr. Victor Dimka, who was briefing the press, in Owerri, said the products were intercepted in February.
He commended sister agencies for providing the information which led to the interception of the truck and its driver, the only occupant of the vehicle, by the officers at the Imo/Abia Area Command.

Dimka said the customs service placed high premium on total eradication of unwholesome practises such as smuggling of contrabands.
"I will therefore leave no stone unturned in bringing an end to this heinous act of economic sabotage and the inherent risk it poses to the lives of Nigerians," he said.
Dimka emphasised that the health hazards of smuggled frozen poultry products were too dangerous to the lives of every Nigerian to ignore.
