The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operation Unit Zone ‘B’, says it has confiscated goods with Duty Paid Value (DPV) worth N360.22 million within one month.
The Comptroller, Mr Mustafa Sarkin-Kebbi, stated this during a briefing on the command’s activities within the period under review.
He explained that the items seized included 3,342 bags of 50kg foreign per boiled rice concealed in local bags, 34 vehicles and 668 bags of NPK fertilizer.
He said other items seized from smugglers included 699 kegs of 30-litre vegetable oil, 217 bales of second hand clothing and 458 sacks of footwear.
Sarkin-Kebbi added that the Unit also impounded
155 parcels of Indian Hemp, two sacks of D5 uncertified drugs and 923 boxes within the period under review.
According the comptroller, the seizures were made largely along Jibia-Niger border in Katsina State and Ilorin-Jebba road.
He disclosed that two suspected smugglers were arrested in Katsina and Kano, two granted bail by courts while three cases are still pending in court.
Sarkin-Kebbi attributed the successes recorded in the zone to the unwavering efforts of Customs personnel, its intelligence unit, and contributions of patriotic Nigerians and sister agencies.
He assured that the unit would not relent in curtailing the activities of smugglers in the zone, and appealed to the public to report movement of smugglers in their localities.
“I am calling on rice millers to come and work with the Nigeria Customs, so that we will be able to help you keep your business,” he added.
