Customs Intercepts N39m Rice, Vehicles At Idiroko

The Headquarters Monitoring Team of the Nigeria Customs Service, Idiroko Axis last week intercepted goods including rice and vehicles Valued at thirty nine million, fifty four thousand, five hundred naira (N39,054,500.00).
According to a statement sent to Shipping Position Daily last week by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone 'A' of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, Coordinator of the team, Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Usman Biri, the seizures took place between 31stJuly and 1st August, 2015.

According to a statement sent to Shipping Position Daily last week by the Public Relations Officer of the Federal Operations Unit, Zone 'A' of the Nigeria Customs Service, Mr. Uche Ejesieme, Coordinator of the team, Deputy Comptroller Yahaya Usman Biri, the seizures took place between 31stJuly and 1st August, 2015.
The Customs service has equally reiterated that importation of rice is not prohibited but that its importation is restricted to the seaports at a duty and levy of 10% and 60% respectively.
Coordinator of the Monitoring Team, stated that the first seizure was recorded on 31st July, 2015 along the Lagos Shagamu Expressway while on an information patrol.
The Coordinator informed that his team was trailing the product which they believed must have come from unapproved routes.
He added that the consignment was loaded in a DAF truck with registration number XS 250 KTU and declared that two suspects; Mr. Maruf Bello and Pastor Ajayi Joshua were arrested at the point of interception and have been detained in the NCS facility at Ikeja for further interrogation.
He gave the Duty paid Value of the consignment at three million, nine hundred thousand naira (N3,900,000.00) only.
In the same vein, he reported that his team also on Saturday August 1st 2015, intercepted five brand new Toyota Corolla cars while acting on intelligence along the Lagos Shagamu Expressway. He stated that the five  2015 Toyota Corolla cars have a duty paid value of N35,154,500.00) only; thus bringing the DPV of the two  seizures to N39,054,500.00).
