Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Women’s Volleyball Club on Tuesday recorded its second victory at the ongoing 2026 National Premier Volleyball League, defeating Vipers and Partners Volleyball Club 3-0 in Abuja.
The encounter which held at the Indoor Sports Hall, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, saw NCS winning the match 25-20, 25-11, 25-20 to consolidate its position in the competition.
The victory followed the team’s opening 3-0 win over Benue Queens, with set scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-10.
Vipers and Partners had also started the competition on a winning note, defeating Kada Emeralds 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-22).
Speaking after the match, Team Manager of Vipers and Partners Volleyball Club, Samuel Onikeku, said the team would continue to improve in spite of the defeat.
“This is our first time in the Premier League, and it is quite different from Division One.
“We are happy to be here and pleased with the progress we are making,” he said.
Onikeku said the club was focused on gradual development and hoped to strengthen its presence in future editions of the league.
He also disclosed that the team faced challenges with the registration of some players ahead of the competition.
“Those players would have made us stronger, but we had to make do with the squad available to us,” he said.
In another women’s fixture, Anambra Queens edged Excelsior Volleyball Club 3-2 in a closely contested encounter.
The match ended 25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14 in favour of Anambra Queens.
Coach of Anambra Queens, John Iwerima, attributed the victory to determination and resilience in spite of the team’s late arrival in Abuja.
“This encounter is our first match and our first win, and I give glory to God for a safe journey.
“We arrived in Abuja at about 3 a.m. and had only a short period to rest before the game,” he said.
Iwerima commended his players for overcoming fatigue to secure the victory.
“The team did not have enough rest, but we achieved what many people did not expect.
“I am proud of the players for their commitment and determination,” he said.
He added that the team would immediately shift attention to its next match.
“We are happy with the result, but we are already preparing for our next fixture.
“We will continue to work hard and build on this performance,” he said.
In another match, CNS Spikers defeated Nigeria Fire Service Volleyball Club 3-0.
CNS Spikers dominated the encounter, winning 25-8, 25-15 and 25-14 to strengthen their position in the competition.
12 teams including NSCDC, Kada Emeralds, Vipers and Partners, Nigeria Customs Service, Benue Queens, Olalomi Royals Angels, and Nigeria Fire Service Volleyball Clubs are vying for honours in the women’s category.
Others are CNS Spikers, Excelsior, Anambra Queens, NAF Rockets, COAS Spikers and Life Camp Volleyball Clubs.
The promoted women’s teams are Vipers and Partners Volleyball Club, Nigeria Fire Service Volleyball Club and Excelsior Volleyball Club.
The promoted men’s teams are Defence Spikers Volleyball Club, Ajase Ipo Volleyball Club and Life Camp Volleyball Club.
The league, which began on June 13, and expected to end on June 28 is organised by the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.
