The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, has seized 146 contraband and illicit goods with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4,628,591:16, between April 1 and June 23.

The Command’s Area Comptroller, Mr Olukayode Afeni, disclosed this at a news conference on Wednesday in Idiroko.

He listed items seized to include: 2,807 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 50kg each, 9,482 parcels of Cannabis Sativa, 62 sacks of raw marijuana,16,525 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, 475 litres of diesel and 7,642 pieces of footwear.

Others seizures made are: 63 sacks of foreign sugar, 73 bales of second- hand clothing, 1 unit of used vehicle, 10 bags of fertiliser (50kg each), 62 bags of imported flour, 32 cartons of frozen product and 100 sachets of 10 pieces of tramadol (225mg).

Afeni explained that the items were seized because some fell under import/export prohibition list while others were as a result of failure to comply with other extant regulation as enshrined in the Nigeria Customs Service Act

The comptroller also said that the command generated ₦259,277,346:89 as revenue from baggage assessments, auctions of perishable items, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and others charges in the second quarter (April 1 to June 23).

He said that ₦76,814,207:00 was generated as revenue for the same period in 2025, a progressive difference of ₦182,445,543:89.

“The difference recorded was made possible as a result of resilience of officers in ensuring that importers and agents were made to adhere strictly to import/export guidelines in tandem with extant laws.

“The command remains resolute in the mandate to protect the national economy and secure our land borders,” he said.

Afeni stated that the command’s patrol covering Ijebu-Ode axis, on June 3, intercepted a truck with registration number ENU 460 XY, conveying 2427 pieces of smuggled pneumatic tyres.

He also said that another truck with reg no BKD 796 XB carrying 113 bags of foreign parboiled rice was intercepted on Itori-Wasimi-Abeokuta road on June 16.

The comptroller further said that 630 bags of foreign parboiled rice was seized from another truck marked DRK 303 XA, on the Sagamu Expressway on May 17.
