The Headquarters Monitoring Team of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Idiroko Axis, has intercepted 810 cartons of smuggled poultry products valued at N4.37 million.
Public Relations Officer, Federal Operations Unit, Ikeja;  Mr Uche Ejesieme, stated this in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Lagos.
According to the statement, Mr Yahaya Usman, the Coordinator of the team and a Deputy Comptroller of Customs, said the seizures were made on June 30 on the Sango-Idiroko Road.
Usman, according to the statement, said that the team had effective synergy and collaboration with the resident units and commands of the service.
He said the team was determined to explore avenues of ensuring compliance with the headquarters’ directive on zero tolerance for smuggled poultry products.
Usman further said the anticipated launch of `Operation Hawk Descend’ by the service would boost the operations of the team and ensure that fiscal policies of the Federal Government were complied with.
The coordinator said the team, alongside others, were fully equipped to tackle smuggling and vowed that they would continue until success was achieved.
Usman said the poultry products would be destroyed and buried at a designated site at the NCS premises in Ikeja.
He said the exercise would be carried out in the presence of other government agencies including the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The coordinator urged Nigerians to support the anti-smuggling crusade of the service by providing genuine information which would facilitate the arrest of smugglers.
Usman said he appreciated the efforts of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, and the NCS management for the support given to his team.
