Customs Seizes Smuggled Goods Worth N119m In 3 Months In Adamawa – Comptroller

Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized smuggled goods worth N119m between January and March in Adamawa.

The NCS Comptroller, Adamawa/Taraba Command, Mr Ishaka Ganiyu, disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday in Yola.

He said that the command, through intelligence report, was able to carry out the seizure along the borders between Adamawa and Cameroon.

Ganiyu listed the items seized to include: 1,753 bags of concealed Urea fertiliser, 237 rice of 50kg foreign parboiled rice, 505 sachets of 100mg Tramadol, 5,340 litres of foreign engine oil and 9,825 liters of petrol, which had been auctioned.

The comptroller further said that during the period under review, the command also seized 30 bales of second-hand clothes, 14 cartons and 47 rolls of cigarettes, 32 foreign bar soaps, 838 pieces of assorted android phones and 955 pieces of wrist watches.

He added that the command also recovered 12 vehicles and three motorcycles being used by the smugglers, but which were abandoned on sighting the officers and men of the command.

Ganiyu said that the items were seized in 40 operations within the period under review as a result of intelligence reports made available to the operatives and with the support of other sister agencies.

He said that the command witnessed 300 per cent increase in the exercise compared with the first quarter of 2021.

The NCS chief urged the public to provide useful information on illegal activities of unrepentant smugglers.

According to him, smuggling is a complete monster against the economic development of the country.
