The immediate past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Dr. Dakuku Peterside has explained why the Deep Blue Economic group was created.
Dakuku who was speaking last week during the official inauguration of members of the group emphasized that the group exists to drive collaboration and integration as well as promote the sector and champion a coordinated approach to the pursuit of blue economy agenda.
According to him, this is why promoters of the vision assembled the best of the actors in the industry to lead the new direction and collaboration.
The former NIMASA boss informed that the initiative, being a private sector-driven will uniquely position Nigeria’s the potentials as well as attract investments to the Blue Economy sector and create limitless opportunities for the country especially in employment, protection of communities and wealth creation.
Also speaking, the Chairperson of the new company, Hajia Lami Tumaka affirmed that the group was established to network platforms and engage critical stakeholders including the Honourable Minister of Transportation, the Heads of maritime agencies, ship owning associations, barge and boat operators, oil and gas players, maritime workers, marine environment managers and community groups.
She added that the idea behind the creation of the company is to sensitize and enlighten stakeholders on the vision and mission for the industry and ultimately get their support and buy-in.

Also speaking, a maritime lawyer and member of the group, Jean Chiazor Anishere, said the group’s vision is to be the leading conglomerate promoting national development, economic growth and sustainability through the Blue Economy Resources Nigeria.
She added that this cannot be achieved without the participation of all and sundry, stressing that the mission to build capacities, engage policy makers, implement action plans, create business and investment opportunities by facilitating strategic decisions and partnerships on maritime environment management and resource efficiency, is open to all.
