Frontline maritime training institution, Elkins Marine Training International has been sacked from its rented apartment which it was using as a temporary site in Apapa, Lagos to its permanent site in Owerri in Imo State.
A source disclosed to Shipping Position Daily last week in Lagos that the institution was forced out of the rented building by the owners and that it left in a hurry, however without having any annex in Lagos or in other states apart from its permanent site in Owerri.
But the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Institution, Otunba Hugh Nwaneri in a chat with Shipping Position Daily described the statement as untrue and that the institution has been planning to move from Lagos because the space was too small for such a huge training institute.
He said that the place only had few classrooms unlike where they are at the moment.
Nwaneri disclosed that the permanent site is built to have enough classrooms and modern equipment in order to enhance better learning opportunities for students.
He claimed that the permanent site is large enough and can even be compared to Yaba College of Technology. He added that they are looking forward to building hostels and expanding it further.
According to him, “we are now at a bigger place, exact to the size of Yabatech, Elkins Marine is expanding and growing so big”.
“The place we were was too small, we were running two classrooms, but where we are at the moment is our permanent site, the classrooms we have are up to 10, we have modern equipment to run the courses here”.
“We are expanding, although no branches yet in Lagos, we want to publicize to let people know that Elkins Marine has expanded from its limits in Marine division unlike what it used to be when we were still at our temporary site”, he added.
