Emir Wants FG To Fight Smuggling Of Agricultural Products

The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, yesterday appealed to the Federal Government to fight smuggling of agricultural products to enable local farmers sell their produce.
The emir made the appeal in Kano during an interactive session with President Muhammadu Buhari, who was in Kano for a two-day working visit.
Sanusi decried tsmuggling of banned agricultural products, saying that it had deterred Nigeria’s agricultural progress.
According to him, it is worrisome to see the huge investment made by governments to boost agriculture, yet farmers have no avenue to sell their products because of the availability of the smuggled items.
He urged the federal government to call for strengthening of ECOWAS aims and objectives to bring member countries to order and prevent all channels of smuggling into the region.
He lauded the government’s fight against insurgency, impunity and corruption, saying that their stance had shaped peoples’ attitudes.
