A fire reportedly erupted in the engine room aboard the “MSC Sao Paolo V” and was later controlled and extinguished. The ship reported the incident involving the fire to the Canadian Coast Guard.
The MSC Sao Paolo V is a Liberian-flagged cargo ship that has a length of 294m and a beam of 32m. It weighs 53,324 gross tons and was built in 1998.
The ship was headed for Sines Portugal from Montreal when the fire broke out aboard the engine room. The fire started at around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 3rd when the ship was near the mouth of the Saguenay River.
