Immediate past chairman, governing council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN); Alhaji Hakeem Olanrewaju has expressed shock over rumours linking him with the January 1, 2013 extension of the contract of the three destination inspection agents.
The ex-CRFFN chair who spoke to Shipping Position Daily yesterday, denied any involvement in the decision of the Federal Government to extend the contract of the three destination inspection agents.
According to him, some media reports about the involvement of a former CFRRN chairman as the arrow head of the pro-inspection agents lobby could not have referred to him. “I am not in any way connected with any inspection agent, either in my former capacity as the chairman of the governing council of CRFFN or in my current private capacity as a freight forwarder”, he stated.
Giving an insight into some of the events that took place  before the extension was granted, he disclosed that he was actually contacted to align with the lobbyist using the platform of the CRFFN, but he added that he told those who approached him that he was no longer the CRFFN chairman, hence his non suitability for the ‘job’.
“I was actually approached by someone who unfortunately I can not  disclosed, but you journalist will certainly know him in the course of time, but I told them that I did not believe in their campaign”, he stated.
When reminded that the story is that a former chairman of CRFFN was involved, he referred this reporter to the other former chairman.
“Go and ask Tony Nwabunike, he is also a former chairman, I have nothing to do with any inspection agent, may be he has something to tell you”, he said.
He said as an individual, he would align with the Nigeria Customs Service in its quest to be more professional and in the spirit of local content.” Why Customs can’t carry out destination inspection, what is it that the inspection agents are doing that the Customs can not do, I think we should encourage them.
