Exxon Mobil, Chevron, AGIP Comply With Stevedoring Regulations As MWUN Sets To Meet NPA Over Non-Compliant Others

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) is set to meet with the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) over the protracted refusal of some International Oil Companies (IOCs) to allow stevedoring companies access their platforms to commence operations, thereby denying registered dockworkers and stevedoring companies access to operate in the IOCs platforms as required by law.

The President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju in a recent chat with our correspondent confirmed that although some of the major IOCs in the country are beginning to comply, he said others are yet to do so.  He informed that among the IOCs that have complied are Exxon Mobil, Chevron, AGIP and very few others.

He said the union will be meeting with the NPA to ask for the comprehensive list of those who have complied and those that are yet to comply with the directive.

According to him, “it is only few of the IOCs that have complied, because NPA too are yet to give us situation report, they are the Masters stevedores, they know those that have complied and those that have not complied, what the union is about to do is to meet with NPA to give us the list of those that have complied and those that are yet to comply

“The major ones that have complied are Exxon Mobil, Chevron, AGIP and a few others. These ones have complied so we will get those ones that are yet to comply with the NPA from there we will know our next step of action” he confirmed.

Recall that the Ministry of Transportation and the NPA had in April 2023 said they will embark on an on-the-spot-assessment of all jetties and International Oil Companies (IOC) facilities across the country from May 8th, 2023.
