As the raining season is fast approaching in the country, automobile dealers along the Apapa – Oshodi expressway have appealed to the construction firm handling the Sunrise -Trinity portion to expedite action on the completion of the road.
The dealers under the auspices of Sunrise Motor Dealers Association (SMDA) called on the construction firm Borini Prono Limited to hasten the on-going rehabilitation work along the portion of the road even as they said the rain will create problems for the dealers, the construction firm , port users, commuters and buyers of vehicles.
Director of the SMDA, Pastor Andrew Uzor told Shipping Position Daily last week that with the raining season fast approaching, business at the park will be terribly affected since the rehabilitation work is yet uncompleted.
According to him, the Sunrise Park has been earmarked as the central point for drainage, pointing out that with the rain, vehicles at the park would be extremely affected.
He explained that with water at the park, most of the vehicles will be damaged and that it could lead to huge losses for the dealers.
The director lamented that, “the way they did their construction, they channeled all the water from different location to this place". Which means the whole water at the main road will find its way to this park and the way the park was constructed, there is no way any pool of water can go out whenever it gets to this point".
"In all, there is no gutter around for the water to flow and I think we have to do something fast before the rain starts".
"My fear is that if the rain eventually starts and water settles at the park then we are in problem because it will destroy the vehicles here and you know water will make the vehicles to be corrosive and rusty".
He also added that plans are on-going to meet with the construction company on way to open up the blocked gutters from Trinity to Sunrise bus stop, in order to prevent the waters to settle at the park when the rain eventually starts.
Uzor also noted if the issue is not quickly addressed, it will lead to massive flooding of residence around Olodi /Apapa community in Lagos.
"If we do not take precautionary measures now that the rain has not started then it will tell on everybody when it eventually starts, he warned.
