FG Approves Enablers to Boost Domestic Gas Supply

The federal government is poised to address the unsatisfactory domestic supply of gas in the country through “enablers” as recommended by the  International Oil Companies (IOCs).  To achieve this, government has already directed that the Nigerian National Corporation should meet all the domestic gas need of the country by December, 2009.
Confirming the development last week at the commencement of a round table on gas delivery , the Group Managing Director, NNPC, Mr. Sanusi Barkindo stressed that: “this is a deliberate move by government towards meeting the 6,000 Megawatt (mw) target by the end of this year.According to him, “the approval would help fast-track clearing of goods at the ports and boost the optimism of all operators to deliver gas on schedule.
“Our commitment to deliver the gas for domestic power supply is non-negotiable, as supply issues are of great concern to the leadership of this country,” he added even as he explained that that NNPC was already working out modalities to collaborate with IOCs to achieve the objective of 6,000 mw target through delivery of the required gas.
