FRSC, NSC Renew Commitment Against Traffic Obstruction

The Federal Road Safety Corps, in partnership with Nigeria Shippers’ Council (NSC) and Ondo State Ministry of Transportation, has renewed its commitment against obstruction of traffic on the highways in the state.

Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, state FRSC Sector Commander, made this known on Wednesday in Ore during a stakeholders meeting.

Ibitoye said that obstruction of traffic, especially by truck drivers, was inimical to safety of lives and properties  due to frequent crashes over traffic violations.

He explained that the FRSC, in partnership with other stakeholders, had resolved to wage war against indiscriminate parking of heavy duty vehicles on roadsides, especially on Ore-Benin Expressway.

“We are here to interface with stakeholders on the need to understand the safety of lives and properties by obeying traffic rules.

“Truck drivers, especially on this Ore-Benin corridor, flout traffic rules by obstructing traffic through indiscriminate parking of their vehicles on the road side, which can cause crashes.

“We have met with all stakeholders to enforce the traffic rules against obstruction of highway, especially on this route,” the sector commander said.

Also, Mr James Atilola, Deputy Director, Monitoring Intermodal Division, NSC, said that the state government established the Vehicle Transit Area (VTA) in Ore for truck drivers.

According to him, the VTA is for truck drivers who embark on a long journey, so that they can park and relax before they continue their journey.

“NSC has engaged in several enlightenment for truck drivers to understand the purpose of the VTA also known as Tataiker Park, yet they choose to park on the highway.

“We have met with all stakeholders in order to ensure that our roads are free from traffic obstructions, and enforcement will commence whereby truck drivers who are caught will face the law,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Gbenga Ajibola, Director of Planning and Engineering, Ondo State Ministry of Transportation, also aligned with enforcement on truck drivers who violated the traffic law.

“The VTA has been improved with all the facilities needed for trucks and other drivers to enjoy and relax in order to reduce fatigue which always results in road crashes,” he said.
