Ship owners from Greece have assured Nigerians that they will relate with Nigerian government about the possibility of establishing a maritime academy in Nigeria as part of efforts to boost manpower development in the shipping industry.
This was made known last week in Lagos during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Nigerian Ship Owners Association (NISA) and Greek ship owners on the supply of 40 vessels into the nation’s fleet.

This was made known last week in Lagos during the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Nigerian Ship Owners Association (NISA) and Greek ship owners on the supply of 40 vessels into the nation’s fleet.
Leader of the delegation; Mr. Constantine Kokkos, affirmed that Greece is a country with large fleets; hence there is the need to cooperate with Nigeria ship owners.
He said: "There are so many things we can do together, including ship yard
"A lot of things can be done, but we need cooperation, we believe in action and we hope the Nigerian government will support us because we need to train Nigerians in that regard"
"We know that Nigerians are intelligent and that is why we will love to train them"
"We are keen in training Nigerians and I will talk to Greece government to come and set up a college and I do believe that it will work”.
He stressed further that it desirable on part of Greece ship owners to partner with Nigeria in area of training and also to boost maritime business.
Kokkos noted that the objective of the collaboration is to avail Nigerians the opportunities to own ships.
