The Director General, Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Dr. Joseph Odumadu has received commendations for exemplary role in the fight against fake and substandard products imported into the country from a maritime group; the Registered Freight Forwarders Forum (RFFF).
The RFFF in a statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Festus Ukwu and secretary Sir , Emeka Okere which was made available to Shipping Position Daily on Friday last week in Lagos, noted that members of the group across the country have noted the good job being done by the SON's DG.

It said that the yardstick used to assess the SON boss was based on obvious reduction and low level influx of substandard product into the country.
The group urged Dr. Odumodu to stand his ground against importation of substandard products into Nigeria through all entry points, adding that there is tendency for unscrupulous elements to regroup to causing havoc on the nation and the economy through importation of fake products.
"The yardstick with which we used to measure the barometer of the reduction and level of performance of substandard product and the DGs performance respectively was determined by the drastic reduction in patronage by known and established importers of such goods such as products, the level of increase of standard products and the degree of general compliance of SON's rules and ethics as it concerns imports and importers"
The forum also advised SON’s management team not to relent in the fight against fake products coming into Nigeria through various entry points, stressing the need for the agency to develop more strategies that will eradicate the monster called substandard, counterfeit and fake goods in the country.
The Festus Ukwu-led group said that: "In a recent survey and observations, including comment made by our members at a general meeting of the forum held on the 27th April 2015 at Amuwo Odofin, comprising of members from Western, eastern and central zones of the country where disturbing issues affecting our ports and entry points were canvassed, it was evident the DG is doing a fantastic job when issues relating to SON was mentioned".
