A self-proclaimed non-partisan group in Akwa Ibom State called Professional Youths Council has pledged their undivided supports to the management and staff of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, (MAN) in Oron, in ensuring that it succeed in providing an enabling environment for students and the community.

The group said that the foremost maritime manpower development institute is on course under the leadership of the acting Rector; Engineer Anthony Ishiodu, saying that it will assist the academy to maintain peace and orderliness.

Also, in a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily and signed by its national President Barr. Ita Umiom, the group condemned reports in the media over issues bothering on misappropriation of funds by some top officials of the school.

The group leader also described as false, baseless and non-existence, the fraud allegation levelled against the academy’s Bursar, Mr. Folorunsho Kayode, adding the sponsored group are doing so to disrupt the academy’s progress.

According to him, both the Acting Rector, Dr. Ishiodu and the Bursar, Mr. Kayode have been part of the system for long, as such they both have shown competent, commitment and honesty in handling the affairs of the institution for the past years.

Umiom said that on assumption of duty as the Acting Rector of the Academy, Dr. Ishiodu has been carrying out reforms and building synergy among management and staff of the school to reposition the institution as one of the best in the world.

The group leader said, the Bursar is a tested and trusted Accountant who has spent close to a decade in the academy as a management staff without any wrongdoing.

He however, called on all Nigerians and the Oron indigenes in particular to join hands with the institution’s management team to build a world class Maritime Academy that Nigerians would be be proud of.

The group leader said that Mr. Kayode has been of impeccable character with integrity and transparency in handling the finances of the academy over the years, which has earned him many awards within and outside Nigeria.

On the alleged in- fighting among the academy’s management team, the group assured that”there is neither in-fighting nor acrimony among the staff, managements and cadets of the school, as such”.
