Following last weekend protest by some licensed customs agents for the removal of a senior customs officer, at PTML command ; Assistant Controller Moyo Aina, a group; the Save Nigerian Freight Forwarders Importers Exporters Coalition(SNFFIEC) has condemned the practitioners’ actions, urging the AC to be focused while dealing with such groups.
The activists also lauded the AC’s effort for being firm as a valuation officer, even as they called on the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali to protect such officers who has chosen not to compromise as regards revenue generation for the government.
Reacting to the protest, national coordinator of the group, Chief Patrick Osita Chukwu maintained that AC Moyo Aina remain a seasoned officer without blemish , noting that he is the best valuation at the PTML command of customs.
He said those calling for the removal of Aina are sycophants and enemies of progress.
Osita said the protesters are frustrated because of the Senior Officer’s decency in the line of duty and are not willing to pay the current duty set aside on their consignment.
The coordinator also reiterated that payment of the correct duty cannot lead to molestation and intimidation from any customs officer, but added those that choose not to pay the right duty are always eager to look for other avenue to frustrate customs officers.
He further alleged that “those protesting last week want AC Moyo Aina and the CAC at PTML to give them money ”
“That protest was baseless and meaningless, because if they had paid the correct duty to the customs, I don’t think issues of multiple alerts will come up”.
Speaking further, the maritime port activist described the Moyo Ania as a dogged officer of customs, saying that he is the type officer that can change the face of the service.
He also lauded responses made the command’s spokesman, Mr. Steven Okonma, saying that customs understands the antics of clearing agents.
