Fresh investigations have revealed the reasons why a tanker driver was shot dead at Trinity bus stop along Apapa-Oshodi expressway on Thursday last week.
Recall that Shipping Position Daily reported on Friday about pandemonium from Mile 2 down to Coconut bus stop when the Police shot sporadically in the air to disperse protesting tanker drivers and motor boys after killing one of their own.
Giving details of what actually happened, a clearing agent who spoke under anonymity, told our correspondent that the shooting started when one of the tanker drivers who was in company with some motor boys resisted arrest by officers of the Federal State Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS) at Trinity bus stop along Apapa-Oshodi expressway, after he was seen smoking Indian Hemp.
He said: “The person involved was my friends’ driver, and I was told that the whole thing started when the driver refused to be arrested by officers of the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad (FSARS). He was caught smoking Indian hemp with some other motor boys at the Trinity bus stop. When the police accosted them and asked the guy to follow them, he refused and the boys started pleading with the Police to forgive him and that he would not smoke again. But it seems all the pleading fell on deaf ears as the Police insisted that he must follow and after several attempts and the boy didn’t follow them, they shot the guy twice and the bullet didn’t penetrate. When they noticed that the bullets didn’t penetrate, they turned and shot at the other driver that was pleading with them, the bullet hit him on the head and that one died on the spot” .
“I was at Berger automobile market when the Police started using the tear gas and I felt it”, he added.
Meanwhile, confirming the story, Chairman, Dry Cargo of the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO); Alhaji Abdullahi Inuwa, “some police from FSARS, said they were smoking under the pedestrian bridge that was all that I have gathered so far, I don’t really know what really happened”, he said.
