The Federal Operations Unit (FOU A) of the Nigeria Customs Service has said that it seized 27 assorted vehicles recently based on intelligent information gathering by the unit.
Area Comptroller of the Unit, Comptroller Mohammed Uba, said this recently while displaying the seized vehicles to newsmen in Lagos.
Speaking during the display, he said that the vehicles were trailed to their final destinations before they were seized from their stands, even as he said that some of them were from the border area.
“These vehicles have been seized from car stands based on information. Some of them are from the border areas and they were seized from the offices. We have been exchanging ideas on getting information about smuggling.
Based on our information, we trail you after reaching your final destination we close on you and ask you this vehicles, do you have any evidence of payment of duty to the government, if you do not have, we seize the vehicles and bring them here; that is what we do” he said.
Speaking further he said that all the vehicles came into the country through unapproved routes.
“And these vehicles are coming through unapproved routes. The federal government has banned the importation of rice and used vehicles through land borders and the policy still remains and we will continue to ensure that the policies are implemented”, he assured.
