Oil and Gas Servicing Company; Integrated Logistics Services (INTELS) has accused the Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) of abandoning a jack up oil rig; Delta Queen at the INTELS jetty in Calabar, Cross Rivers State.
Head of Administration and General Services of INTELS, Mr. Chibuisi Onyebuike expressed the company's lamentation last week in Calabar when he was conducting the Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Hadiza Bala Usman round the facility.
He said that the continuous stay of the rig at INTELS jetty does not allow vessels to berth and this has led to loss of revenue. He stressed that the oil rig has in no small measure affected operations of the jetty.
Onyebuike equally lamented that the other half of the jetty space of INTELS has been riddled with ship wrecks, even as he appealed to the NPA help in removing the wrecks.
He pointed out that no dredging has been carried out at the channels leading to the port and this has discouraged investors from coming to the port.
"AMCON has since taken over the management of the oil rig; Delta Queen, but it chose to abandon it here at our jetty. The rig has taken half of the meters length of our jetty and ships can no longer berth there", he lamented.
Shipping Position Daily findings revealed that the Delta Queen is owned by Seawolf Oilfield Services Limited. The rig is a standard jack up type with independent leg cantilever.
The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has however assured INTELS that it would pursue the case with AMCON and make sure the rig is removed.
Speaking, the Managing Director of NPA, Hadiza Bala Usman expressed concern that INTELS has not attracted enough cargo traffic to enable her meet commitments to NPA in line with the concession agreement.
"You should write to the AMCON and tell them to remove the oil rig. On our own part, we will do a follow up on this case to ensure that your jetty is free of any impediments to your operations" she assured.
