The South-west zonal Vice-Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Debo Ahmed, has said that it was time Nigeria started refining its crude oil locally.
He advised the federal government to take advantage of the discovery of shell oil in America and China by refining its crude oil locally.

Speaking after his inauguration in Ilorin last week alongside Special Assistant to the National President of IPMAN on Projects, Alhaji Akorede Lola Muibi, the IPMAN boss stressed that local refining would give the nation economic prosperity.
He said: "Nigeria has a readymade market; we need to take advantage of our population on the African continent and stop the sale of crude oil. Once we can refine it and add value to it, the country will benefit immensely."
He said IPMAN refinery will soon take off to support the government in oil production.
"It is imperative to stop the sale of crude oil now in view of the discovery of shell oil in USA and China", he added.
On pipeline vandalism, Ahmed promised continued synergy with security agencies to protect oil pipelines from vandals.
He said despite the daunting challenges and vandalism, the association will always ensure products' availability nationwide.
