There are strong indications that the Joint Action Committee Of Freight Forwarders (JACOFF) may resurface as freight forwarding associations operating at the Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) are set to come together and address issues bothering on the progress of their business.
The associations which include: the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF),Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), the Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN) and the National Council of Managing Director of Licensed Customs Agents(NCMDLCA) is set engage the Nigeria Customs Service, terminal operators and other relevant agencies of government at the terminal over what they described as" the suffering of agents at the terminal 1 and 2 of KLT".
Confirming the resuscitation of the joint action committee to Shipping Position Daily on Monday, Chairman of NAGAFF, KLT chapter, Chief Fabian Okafor said that the various freight forwarding associations at the terminal want to form a formidable force, in order to tackle some of the challenges they have with agencies of government and the terminal operators.
The NAGAFF top man noted that it is a common agreement among the associations at KLT to look at how to make business thrive and to discuss their demands with terminal operators and the customs.
He pointed out that on Friday this week, the group will start tour the terminals.
According to him, the group will start the movement first by storming the SDV terminal situated at phase 2 before proceeding to other notable ones at the vicinity.
He alleged that the customs officers are very excited over the fact that agents are not collaborating among one another, but stated that they are looking towards achieving a common goal soon.
Okafor added that coming together by the various freight forwarding associations will yield results, which in turn will create an atmosphere whereby set goals will be achieved.
Speaking further, the NAGAFF chieftain stressed that at the moment nobody is spearheading the group but affirmed that since he is longest serving chairman at KLT, there is the possibility that he might lead the group.
In a similar vein,  former caretaker committee chairman of ANLCA,KLT chapter; Mr Chukwunonso Chukwudinma revealed that as a result of  the shipping companies , terminal operators and the customs ,freight forwarders are being victimised.
He added that the formation of the group will achieve a common goal when they swing into action, adding that agents are suffering at KLT.
