The Joint Military Task Force in the Niger Delta on Wednesday handed over four suspected illegal crude oil bunkerers to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for further investigation.
The suspects were handed over to the Commission in Port Harcourt by the Commanding Officer of NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom, Cdre. Moses Lekwot.

The suspects were handed over to the Commission in Port Harcourt by the Commanding Officer of NNS Jubilee, Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom, Cdre. Moses Lekwot.
Lekwot told journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday that the suspects were separately arrested at different locations in Ikot Abasi with 43 drums of illegally refined diesel, 8 drums of illegally refined diesel and 50 litres of illegally refined diesel, one Audi car, one motorcycle, N48,000 and two Nokia handsets.
He reiterated the resolve of the Navy on land and sea to curtail the activities of criminals involved in pipeline vandalism and other crimes.
‘’ We operate in the water fronts and in the back waters too. We carry out sea patrols and sometimes, we carryout foot patrols in the back waters because sometimes, these criminals out smart us out at sea.
“But by the time they get to the lands, they will meet some of our foot patrols waiting in the water fronts for them.
“ And these are the kind of arrests we make because we intercept them just by the water front when they are coming out with whatever they have gone out of the sea to do.’’
Receiving the suspects, Mr Hyacinth Edozie, EFCC’s Head of operations in Port Harcourt, said the commission would carry out further investigations on the suspects.
“Our detectives will travel to Ikot Ibasi, visit the scene of crime, take samples, do analysis with the DPR and once that is done, we compile our case file.’’
Edozie said the final investigation report would be submitted to the commission’s legal department for necessary action. (NAN)
