The Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) says it is operating 24 hours cargo clearance in line with the executive order of the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
The Controller of the KLT Command, Comptroller Lami Wushishi, said this in an interview in Lagos on Friday.
Wushishi said that the command had also introduced a one-stop clearing process to facilitate the release of containers.
According to her, once the documentation is in order and your consignment is legitimate, nothing will either stop or delay the release of any consignment.
“Another major step that has endeared KLT Customs to freight forwarders lately is the modernisation of the cargo clearance process, ‘’ she said.
The controller said that the command was also working in line with the vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali.
She said that since her assumption of duty few months ago, the revenue profile of the command had been on the rise as a result of coordinated efforts of the officers and the goodwill of stakeholders.
The controller said that the command was conducive for quick facilitation of cargo clearance, pointing out that stakeholders could effortlessly access the terminal to pick their cargoes without hindrance by the oil tanker drivers.
Wushishi said that she met with the stakeholders to find out their common problems, which included difficulty by truckers in accessing the terminal and the absence of a holding bay.
“Having regular stakeholders meetings enabled critical issues and possible solutions to be deliberated upon for implementation and to ensure the command and the stakeholders achieve their objectives.
“We were able to get the cooperation of the oil tanker drivers to be orderly in parking their vehicles in order not to block other road users and ensure free vehicular movement in and out of the command, ‘’ the controller said.
She pointed out that in collaboration with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), unauthorised persons were not allowed into the terminal.
According to her, persons with legitimate businesses are issued port pass, which guarantees entry and limits the accessibility of touts.
Wushishi expressed appreciation for the cooperation extended to the command by colleagues and other stakeholders at the mother port (Tin-Can Island Port), with regard to stemming of containers to KLT.
“I will like to thank my colleagues at the mother port, for occasionally conceding containers to be transferred to the KLT Command, which is vital to our stay, ’’ she said.
The controller expressed optimism of a brighter future for the command, based on the ongoing reconstruction of the Apapa Port access roads.
She said that the ongoing rehabilitation of the roads meant well for the terminal and the stakeholders.
“On completion of the roads, the command and other stakeholders will benefit immensely.
“The command will maintain an open door policy and port users are free to call on me when the need arises,’’ Wushishi said.
