The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal (KLT) Area Command, recorded a revenue collection of ₦19.4 billion.
The Acting Customs Area Controller of KLT, Deputy Comptroller Bolaji Adigun, made this known while briefing newsmen in Lagos on Thursday.
He said that the command remained committed to revenue generation, trade facilitation and enforcement.
Adigun said the briefing provided an opportunity to present performance and highlight significant achievements recorded by the command, particularly in revenue collection and enforcement activities within the period.
He said the command generated over ₦19.4billion in June 2026, compared to the ₦14.3 billion in June 2025, representing an increase of ₦5.0 billion representing 35 per cent.
The CAC attributed the growth to dedication of officers, improved stakeholder compliance, enhanced trade facilitation and deployment of intelligence-driven strategies to maximize revenue collection at the terminal.
He noted that while facilitating legitimate trade, the Command remains firm on enforcement to protect the economy and safeguard Nigerians from harmful and non-compliant imported goods.
Adigun disclosed that officers intercepted a 40-foot container, number TIIU4739360, containing expired disposable vape products with a Duty Paid Value of ₦809.6 million during diligent cargo examination.
He said physical examination revealed 18 pallets of disposable vape products, with each pallet containing 60 cartons of varying pack sizes of 20 and 40 packs respectively.
“Each pack contained 10 pieces, bringing the total to 484 cartons, equivalent to 182,340 pieces of disposable vape products found inside the intercepted container at Kirikiri Lighter Terminal.
“Further examination established expiry dates of 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026, rendering the products unfit for use and posing potential risks to public health and safety,” Adigun said.
The KLT customs boss confirmed that the products were exported from Hong Kong, while the product was made in China shipping to Nigeria, adding that collaboration with customs would continued to ensure compliance and protect Nigerians from harmful imports.
Adigun said that a suspect had been apprehended and would be handled over to the appropriate authorities for further action.
He noted that in line with procedures, the command has begun the process of handing over the seized items to the appropriate government agency for regulatory action and proper disposal.
Adigun said the interception demonstrated the vigilance and professionalism of officers in enforcing extant laws and preventing unsafe goods from entering the Nigerian market through the terminal.
He urged importers and licensed customs agents to ensure strict compliance with import regulations and to embrace the Nigeria Customs Service Authorized Economic Operator (AEO)and Advance Ruling programmes.
He explained that the AEO and advance ruling systems promote trade facilitation, enhance compliance, provide predictability in customs processes and improve ease of doing business for stakeholders.
The acting CAC assured that the command will continue with its intelligence-driven operations, effective risk management and stringent cargo examination to intercept expired, prohibited and falsely declared goods.
Adigun appreciated the Comptroller-General, of customs, Dr Bashir Adeniyi, officers, stakeholders and partner agencies for their support, and commended the press for objective reportage of customs activities.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to consolidating achievements in revenue, trade facilitation and enforcement while protecting the nation’s economy and improving the wellbeing of Nigerians.
The Port Officer, KLT command of the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NQFDAC) Dr Anzaku Peter, while receiving the Intercepted drugs and the suspect, commended customs officers for the seizure.
Anzaku said the agency is working with customs in ensuring only healthy and properly regulated products enter the country to safeguard public health.
He stated that NAFDAC’s mandate covers “striking out “ unwholesome, expired and unregistered goods, noting that the intercepted vapes with expiry dates from 2022 to 2026 pose health risks.
